About the Beans : Brazil - Mantissa - Direct Trade
This is the newest of our Direct-Trade relationships and one that we've been excited about for some time!
Our good friend, and former Beanie, Artur visited the farm and immediately knew it was somewhere that Missing Bean should be involved with. After then meeting the framer & exporter, Athos, and flying him over for a visit to our East Oxford Roastery, the plans were put into action!
This years crop from the Mantissa farm is a smooth and sweet Yellow Catuai. Unusual for a Brazilian coffee it's grown at a fairly high altitude, 1280m, which does give the beans a hint of fruity acidity, making it a perfect all rounder of a bean.
The Mantissa farm has a high amount of shade-grown coverage, meaning the coffee plants are sheltered and the soils are naturally protected and nutrients are retained. There is also an abundance of local wildlife on the farm including rare species of birds, monkeys and snakes, which all work in harmony to maintain the land and the plants.
Athos is a 5th generation coffee farmer and is incredibly proud of the coffees that he, his family and his team grow. Missing Bean is the very first importer and roaster to work directly with the farm and we're excited to bring you a taste of something new, something different and something special.
