After a good few years in the making, Missing Bean Maidenhead opened its doors on Thursday 8 October. You’ll find us on the ground floor of the Tempo Building at 20 Grenfell Road, right opposite Maidenhead station.
It’s a big one for us. It’s our eighth café and the first time we’ve set up shop outside Oxfordshire. It’s also something we’ve wanted to do for a long time: a Maidenhead café by day that turns into a wine bar in the evening.
“Maidenhead has been in the pipeline for several years now, and we can’t wait to finally open the doors to this exciting new chapter,” says Ori Halup, co-founder and managing director. “The delays to the building have actually worked in our favour, as we’ve been able to use the time to perfect the offering and craft something that truly reflects who we are and what we’re about.”
From morning coffee to an evening glass of wine
During the day it’s everything you’d expect from us: ethically sourced speciality coffee, roasted by us in Oxfordshire, plus pastries, cakes, toasties and sandwiches. You can also pick up a bag of beans to take home.
In the evening the lights go down and the wine comes out, turning us into a relaxed wine bar in Maidenhead. There’s a good selection of wines, a handful of cocktails and some beers, plus plenty to eat alongside: olives, little Italian biscuits, a burrata bowl with pesto and olive oil, and cheese and charcuterie boards for sharing.
The wine bar idea goes right back to where Missing Bean started. Ori and Vicki, our founders, were inspired early on by Antipodean coffee culture, where a great café often becomes a relaxed spot for a glass of wine later in the day. Maidenhead is our chance to finally do it properly.
Not new to Maidenhead
Some locals may already know our coffee. Presto and Junior’s, two of our long-standing wholesale coffee customers, have been serving it in Maidenhead for years. A huge thank you to everyone who came to our soft launch last week. Around 200 of you came through the doors by early afternoon, which was a lovely surprise.
