May Morning is one of Oxford's most magical days of the year, a 500-year-old tradition that sees thousands of early risers gather in the city centre as the Magdalen College Choir sings from the top of the Great Tower at 6am, kicking off a morning of Morris dancing, folk music and city-wide celebrations.
We were proud to be one of the first specialty coffee shops in Oxford, and May Morning has always felt like a fitting way to mark that history. This year, we opened two locations from 6.45am to welcome the crowds.
Over at our East Oxford Roastery on Magdalen Road, we were serving up bacon and egg butties alongside a serious dose of rave energy, courtesy of Rosie Raves, who kept the vibes going with jungle sets from 6.45 until 8.30am. It brought together a brilliant mix of Oxford's community, from those who'd been up dancing all night, to parents and children squeezing in a quick rave before the school run. A proper May Morning crowd!
Meanwhile, over at our Turl Street coffee shop, the queues were stretching down the road before we'd barely got the doors open, always a good sign! Bacon and egg butties going down very well in the city centre too.
There's something really special about Oxford on May Morning, and we feel very lucky to be a part of it every year.
