The Oxford roastery's collaboration with the football club has generated £1,296.08 for the Joey Beauchamp Foundation in just eight months
Missing Bean Coffee Roasters has announced that sales of its collaborative 'Can We Talk?' coffee blend, created in partnership with Oxford United FC, have raised £1,296.08 for the Joey Beauchamp Foundation over the past eight months.
A Coffee With a Cause
We developed the coffee alongside Oxford United as part of the club's suicide prevention and mental health awareness campaign of the same name, working together with Baton of Hope, the Joey Beauchamp Foundation, and Oxfordshire Mind. The campaign aims to break down stigma around mental health and encourage open conversations, asking one simple but potentially life-saving question: Can We Talk?
The Man Behind the Campaign
Leading the charge is Oxford United midfielder Will Vaulks, whose commitment to this cause is deeply personal. Having lost both of his grandfathers to suicide within the space of a year, Vaulks has dedicated himself to mental health awareness both on and off the pitch. He is an ambassador for Baton of Hope, the UK's largest suicide awareness initiative, and won the FIFPro Players Voice award for his work in suicide prevention.
Every Bag Makes a Difference
We donate 100% of the retail margin from every bag sold – £4.50 per 250g bag purchased at full price – directly to the Joey Beauchamp Foundation, which supports vital mental health work across Oxfordshire. The coffee is available online, in our cafés, and in the Oxford United club store.
About the Blend
The blend, which changes seasonally, currently features beans from Brazil (Sitio Posses, Direct Trade), Mexico (Finca Hamburgo, direct trade), and Rwanda (Isano Lot 1), with tasting notes of honey, raisin and pistachio. We developed it with direct input from Oxford United players, including Will Vaulks, who took part in tasting sessions to find a blend that would work both at mental health workshops and at home.
In Memory of Joey Beauchamp and Jack Badger
The Can We Talk? campaign was launched in tribute to two lives lost to suicide in the Oxford United community. Joey Beauchamp, the club's beloved winger who made 428 appearances and scored 80 goals, took his own life at the age of 50. Jack Badger was a young Oxford United fan who passed away shortly before World Mental Health Day. The Joey Beauchamp Foundation was established in Joey's memory, working in partnership with Oxford United in the Community (OUITC) to promote mental health support, counselling access, and suicide prevention across Oxfordshire.
